Support
If something isn’t working, write to hola@reditu.diezcien.com with your phone model and what happened. During the beta, real people reply, not a form.
The permissions, one by one
Reditu asks for permissions that are odd for a normal app, but standard for one that has to stay alive with the phone in your pocket. They are requested when you start your first ride, and some have to be switched on by hand in Settings: Android won’t let you grant them from a dialog.
- Location “all the time”: without it, your group stops seeing you as soon as you lock the screen. Android asks in two steps: first “while using the app” and then, from Settings → Reditu → Permissions → Location, “Allow all the time”.
- Display over other apps: this is what lets the strip sit on top of the sat nav. Turn it on in Settings → Reditu → Display over other apps. If you don’t, the app still works, but you only see it by opening it.
- Unrestricted battery: if battery saving is on, the system may put the app to sleep halfway through a ride. In Settings → Reditu → Battery, choose “Unrestricted”.
- Bluetooth: only to know whether you have an intercom connected and to speak through it instead of the phone’s speaker. We access nothing else.
Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo and friends
These brands have their own battery manager, on top of Android’s, and close apps in the background even if you have given them every permission. If your group sees you vanish halfway through a ride and you have one of these phones, look for “autostart” or “auto-launch” in the settings and turn it on for Reditu. Drop us a line and we’ll tell you where it is on your model.
Common problems
- A fellow rider shows up in grey: grey means “no signal”: they have lost coverage or GPS. The strip still shows their last known position and the time.
- Nothing comes through the intercom: check the intercom is paired before starting the ride. If it isn’t detected, the alert plays through the phone’s speaker.
- The app doesn’t alert me about anything: that’s normal. Only a request for help or someone genuinely dropping back breaks the silence. The first few minutes after setting off don’t trigger alerts either, because the group leaves in dribs and drabs.
- I force-closed the app: if you stop it from Settings, Android won’t let it come back by itself. You have to open it again by hand to keep sending your position.
What’s new in the beta
What has changed in each version, in two lines. Coming soon.
iPhone version
It will come after Android. On iPhone the strip can’t sit on top of other apps, so the group’s status will show in the Dynamic Island and on the lock screen. Write to us if you’d like us to let you know.
